Northwest Mississippi Football Rises to No. 7 in NJCAA Poll

The Northwest Mississippi Community College football team climbed four spots to No. 7 in the latest NJCAA poll after defeating Northeast Mississippi 20-10 last Thursday. The win improved the Rangers’ record to 3-2 and extended their winning streak to two games, according to the rankings.

The Rangers are the second-highest team from Mississippi in the poll, behind Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, which moved up to second after Iowa Western Community College dropped to No. 5 following a loss to Hutchinson Community College.

Northwest holds a slight edge over other Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges programs, ranking one spot ahead of Itawamba Community College at No. 8 and Copiah-Lincoln Community College at No. 9. East Mississippi Community College is just outside the top 10 at No. 11 after suffering its first loss of the season, dropping to 4-1.

The team returns home Thursday night for its homecoming game against Coahoma Community College. The Tigers nearly upset Itawamba in their last game, leading at half and holding a 41-35 lead in the final minute before falling 42-41. The game kicks off at 7 p.m., with festivities prior to and during the game.
