Bulldogs offensively shut out by Wildcats
By Myra Bean
The Mississippi State Bulldog football team failed to score an offensive point in a 24-2 loss to Kentucky tonight.
Kentucky shut down the prolific air game of the Bulldogs (1-2).
Mississippi State saw freshman backup quarterback Will Rogers march the team down the field to the end zone in the fourth quarter. The possession ended in an interception credited to Rogers but in reality Kentucky linebacker Jamar Watson wrestled the ball from the hands of Osirus Mitchell. Rogers was two for nine with two interceptions.
Starting quarterback K. J. Costello completed 36 of 55 passes for 232 yards and four interceptions.
Mississippi State’s only points was a safety after a high snap on a Kentucky punt went over the punter’s head and he kicked it through the end zone.
Mississippi State returns home next Saturday to face the No. 21 Texas A&M Aggies (2-1) who defeated No. 4 Florida 41-38 on a field goal as time expired. Texas forced a fumble, moved the ball down the field to get in field goal range and took the contest.
Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. on the SEC Network.
