The Northwest Mississippi Community College women’s golf team concluded the first day of the Full Moon BBQ Invitational in Calera, Alabama, in seventh place. The tournament, hosted by NCAA Division II’s University of Montevallo, features eight teams, with the Rangers as the only two-year program participating.
Despite injury issues limiting their roster to only freshmen, the team performed well. Two players sit in the top 25, and two others are within reach of the top half of the field. Elizabeth Kilpatrick led the team, shooting a six-over 78 in her first round and a 79 in the second. Her round included 12 pars and a birdie, with her back nine finishing at just two-over par.
Elsa Lomas Castillo finished the day at 19-over overall. She posted an eight-over 82 in her first round but struggled with consistency in the second, finishing with five double bogeys and three birdies for an 11-over 82. She ended the day tied for 25th place. Rylee Summerlin and Graysa Enders finished close behind, in 33rd and 35th, respectively. Summerlin’s highlight was a late run of two birdies on the 4th and 5th holes, helping her finish the front nine at one-over, despite a rough start on the front nine with five bogeys and two doubles.
Enders remained consistent, posting an 11-over 82 in her first round and an 85 in her second, finishing at 25-over for the day. Avery Baker showed improvement after an opening 92, shooting a 90 in the second round. The team will play the final 18 holes on Wednesday.
