Ruston, La. — The Alcorn State Lady Braves faced Louisiana Tech in a non-conference volleyball match Tuesday night at the Thomas Assembly Center. The match marked a rematch from their previous meeting on Sept. 2, 2025, in Loreman, Mississippi, where Louisiana Tech won 3-0.
Alcorn fought through three intense sets, recording 24 kills as a team. The match featured 17 tie scores and six lead changes, highlighting the competitiveness of the game. Sophomore Rylan Jones led the Braves with 15 kills, reaching her 200th career kill while hitting .167. She finished with 10 points and two digs.
Senior Courtney Carter contributed five kills. Setter Daylin Saiki directed the offense with 18 assists, surpassing 100 career assists. She also recorded one ace and two kills. Sophomore Tomoni Giddings led the team defensively with 19 digs out of the team’s total 33, with additional contributions from Kasey Watkins (4 digs) and Courtney Carter (3 digs).
Overall, the Braves finished the match with 24 kills, one service ace, and 33 digs, while hitting .115. They will now travel to Memphis, Tennessee, to compete in the Carrie Yerty Classic hosted by the University of Memphis. Alcorn State is scheduled to open the tournament against the Memphis Tigers on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m.
