William Carey’s Jayden Sawyer Named NFCA NAIA Pitcher of the Year
Louisville, Ky. — William Carey pitcher Jayden Sawyer has been named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association NAIA Pitcher of the Year, the organization announced this week. Sawyer is the first player from William Carey to receive the award.
She delivered a standout season, helping the Lady Crusaders to 41 wins and claiming both the SSAC regular-season and tournament titles. Sawyer led the NAIA with 251 strikeouts and posted a 0.85 ERA over 181 innings. She was responsible for more than half of her team’s wins with 24.
In her 27 starts, Sawyer threw 21 complete games, including 13 shutouts. Opponents struggled to reach base against her, batting just .124. She allowed only 25 runs, 22 of which were earned, throughout the season.
“Jayden is a special individual,” said head coach Wendy Hogue. “Not only is she among the most talented players in the game, but she is also one of the best teammates. What a well-deserved honor for her to be recognized as the best in the NAIA. I’m very thankful she’s a Crusader.”
In addition to her NFCA award, Sawyer received several other honors, including SSAC Co-Player of the Year, SSAC Pitcher of the Year, and SSAC Newcomer of the Year. She was named to the SSAC All-Conference team, the SSAC All-Tournament Team, and earned first-team NAIA and NFCA All-America honors.
