Four Jones College Softball Players Named NFCA All-Americans
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Four Jones College softball players received National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American honors. Pitcher Madison Sawyer and outfielder Mabry Eason earned first-team honors, while first baseman Mary Kimble Price and outfielder Claire Andersen made the second team.
This marks the 11th straight season that a Bobcat has been named an NFCA All-American, giving Jones a total of 34 all-time selections. Sawyer, a freshman from Saraland, Alabama, posted a 20-3 record with two saves and a 2.61 ERA in 145 innings pitched. She struck out 134 batters and held opponents to a .201 batting average. Sawyer was also named NFCA All-South Region, MACCC Pitcher of the Year and to the All-MACCC First Team.
Eason, a freshman from Oxford, Mississippi, batted .358 with 14 doubles, 24 home runs and 65 RBIs. She was named NFCA All-South Region and All-MACCC First Team. Price, a freshman from Kosciusko, Mississippi, hit .399 with 18 home runs, 13 doubles and 69 RBIs. She also led the team with 77 hits and posted a .977 fielding percentage. Price was named NFCA All-South Region and to the All-MACCC First Team.
Andersen, a sophomore from Wayne Academy, led the Bobcats with a .410 batting average and stole 50 bases in 56 attempts, the most in the MACCC and seventh nationally. She was named NFCA All-South Region and selected for the All-MACCC Second Team.
The Bobcats finished the season with a 50-12 record and placed fourth at the NJCAA Division II World Series. Of the 20 teams competing, half had players named All-America, including third-place Murray State, which earned six first-team selections, the most among all teams. The South region had the most All-American selections with 20, followed by the Midwest with 13 and the East with three. Among those honored, 25 were sophomores and 11 were freshmen.
NFCA All-Region and All-America honors are determined through a nomination process by NFCA-member coaches, regional voting, and final selection by the NJCAA Division II All-America committee.
