Unseeded Mississippi State shocks Oklahoma to reach Women’s College World Series
Norman, Okla. — Mississippi State made history Sunday, defeating No. 2 Oklahoma 6-0 to advance to the Women’s College World Series for the first time. The unseeded Bulldogs snapped the Sooners’ five-year streak of appearances in Oklahoma City and became the first team to shut out OU since Alabama in the 2019 WCWS, ending a 399-game streak.
Delainey Everett pitched a standout game for Mississippi State, going seven innings and allowing just three hits. The junior left-hander struck out three batters, marking the longest outing of her career. The Bulldogs took an early lead, with Kinley Keller driving in three runs in the first three innings. MSU extended its lead with solo and two-run homers from Paige Ernstes and Morgan Bernardini, respectively.
Mississippi State’s victory was notable as the program’s first trip to the WCWS and for ending Oklahoma’s run of consecutive trips. The Bulldogs also became the only team to beat Oklahoma twice this season. Morgan Bernardini, who hit her sixth NCAA Tournament home run of 2026, led MSU with a .426 batting average in the postseason. Everett’s dominant performance marked a rare postseason shutout against a top-five team for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs will face Texas Tech in their first game at the WCWS on Thursday, May 28. Follow Mississippi State softball updates via the team’s official social media channels.
