Southern Miss Baseball Heads to Mobile for Key Sun Belt Series at South Alabama
The Southern Miss baseball team is traveling to Mobile this weekend to play a three-game Sun Belt Conference series against South Alabama at Eddie Stanky Field. The Golden Eagles, ranked No. 18 nationally, enter the series with a 29-12 overall record and an 11-7 mark in league play, according to school officials.
The series begins Friday at 6:30 p.m. Central Time and will be broadcast on ESPN+. Fans can also listen via Southern Miss Sports Network affiliates and follow live stats on SouthernMiss.com.
Southern Miss sits in second place in the Sun Belt standings, four games behind Coastal Carolina. The team is one game ahead of South Alabama, which it faces this weekend, as well as Appalachian State and Troy—teams the Eagles have already defeated this season. The team has won four consecutive games, including walk-off victories over Texas State and Tulane.
In the all-time series, Southern Miss trails South Alabama 69-47, but has won nine of the last 11 meetings. Since joining the Sun Belt in 2023, the Eagles are 7-2 against the Jaguars.
One notable player returning to Mobile is Kyle Morrison, a former South Alabama player now with Southern Miss. Morrison leads the team in batting average (.345), home runs (12), and RBIs (37). He had a strong performance last season against USA, including a home run and a game-tying double. If he finishes the season atop all three categories, Morrison would become the first Golden Eagle since 2014 to win a triple crown.
The Golden Eagles will start left-hander Grayden Harris (7-1, 3.20 ERA) in Friday’s opener, followed by right-hander Camden Clark (5-0, 1.69 ERA) on Saturday, and right-hander Camden Sunstrom (3-3, 2.57 ERA) on Sunday. After the series, Southern Miss will play its final non-conference game Tuesday at Tulane.
