Southern Miss Baseball Hosts Tulane in Final Midweek Home Game
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss baseball will play its last midweek game at home Tuesday when it hosts Tulane at Pete Taylor Park. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+ and broadcast on Southern Miss Sports Network affiliates.
The No. 18 Golden Eagles (28-12) are coming off a three-game sweep of Texas State, which placed them second in the Sun Belt Conference with an 11-7 record. They trail only Coastal Carolina (15-3) in the league standings. Southern Miss leads South Alabama, App State, and Troy in the conference race.
The Green Wave (21-20) enters the game after losing two of three to Florida Atlantic in American Athletic Conference play. The teams will meet again next Tuesday in New Orleans.
Southern Miss has won seven straight meetings against Tulane since the 2022 season. The game features a matchup between Golden Eagles pitcher Jack Brafa Jr. and Tulane’s Cole Richardson. Brafa holds a 3-0 record with a 3.12 ERA, while Richardson has yet to record a decision with a 2.84 ERA.
Several Golden Eagles are hitting above .300 this season, led by senior center fielder Joey Urban, who boasts a .338 average, nine home runs, and 32 RBIs. Senior second baseman Kyle Morrison is close behind with a .336 average, 12 homers, and 37 RBIs. Junior shortstop Seth Smith is hitting .313 with two homers and 21 RBIs, and Davis Gillespie maintains a .311 average with 10 homers and 33 RBIs.
After Tuesday’s game, Southern Miss will travel to Mobile to face South Alabama on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Eddie Stanky Field in their next series.
