Southern Miss Women’s Golf Opens Sun Belt Championships in 12th Place

The Southern Miss women’s golf team completed the first 18 holes of the Sun Belt Championships Monday at Lakewood Golf Club in Point Clear, Alabama. The Golden Eagles shot a team score of 308 and are in 12th place overall, according to tournament officials.

Louise Cuyvers led Southern Miss with a two-over-par 74, which included four birdies. She birdied twice on both the front and back nine. Savannah Van Gaalen and Taylor Trible both shot five-over 77 and are tied for 40th in the individual standings. Fernanda Gorostiaga posted an 80, with three birdies, two of which came on the back nine. Liv Romer finished with an 84, rounding out the team’s scoring.

Appalachian State leads the field at three-under par, followed by ULM, Texas State, Coastal Carolina, Old Dominion, and South Alabama. Old Dominion and South Alabama are tied for fifth. Southern Miss is scheduled to start the second round Tuesday at 8 a.m., with Romer teeing off first from the 10th hole. The remaining players will follow in nine-minute intervals.
