Ole Miss Baseball splits doubleheader with Texas A&M on Senior Day

Oxford, Miss. — Ole Miss and Texas A&M split a doubleheader Saturday at Swayze Field. The Aggies won the first game 18-5, while the Rebels took the nightcap 6-5, securing the series win for Ole Miss. The Rebels had previously won Friday night’s game 5-3.

Ole Miss, ranked No. 20, improved to 34-18 overall and 14-13 in Southeastern Conference play. Texas A&M, ranked No. 9, moved to 37-12 and 16-10 in conference. The series marked consecutive wins for the Rebels after their 2-1 series victory over A&M last season.

In Saturday’s second game, Taylor Rabe pitched three scoreless innings for the Aggies before allowing five runs in the fourth. Hayden Federico and Austin Fawley contributed with home runs for Ole Miss. Rabe finished with six innings, six hits, five runs and 14 strikeouts, tying his career high and setting a Rebel record for strikeouts since Doug Nikhazy in 2021. Hunter Elliott also struck out 11 in Friday’s win.

The Rebels took a 5-0 lead after three innings but faced a rally from Texas A&M, which scored five runs in the fourth and three in the sixth to tie the game. Ole Miss scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh on Judd Utermark’s single, and Walker Hooks earned his second save of the series to secure the win.

In the first game, Texas A&M’s Gavin Lyons earned the win, while Cade Townsend took the loss for Ole Miss. The Aggies scored nine runs over the last three innings to end the game after seven innings, despite a late rally from Ole Miss. The Rebels will host UT Martin on Tuesday before concluding the regular season at Alabama from Thursday through Saturday.
