Jackson State’s men’s and women’s track and field teams are set to compete at the SWAC Outdoor Championships at A.W. Mumford Stadium in Baton Rouge. The meet runs from Sunday, May 10, through Tuesday, May 12, and is hosted by Southern University.
Competition begins with multis on Sunday, featuring Jackson State athletes Lenasia Drummond in the heptathlon and Conner Cooper in the decathlon. The field events start with the women’s hammer throw, followed by the men’s event. Malayna Mallory is making her outdoor conference debut, entering the meet as the second seed in her flight.
The first track event of the meet is the 200-meter preliminaries. Sedgwrick Pitts Jr., who earned a bronze medal in the event at the indoor championships earlier this year, leads the Tigers.
