Ole Miss Baseball Faces No. 22 Southern Miss in Trustmark Park Rematch

Ole Miss baseball, ranked No. 25 in the nation, is set to face No. 22 Southern Miss in a non-conference matchup Tuesday at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on the Ole Miss Radio Network.

The Rebels enter the game with a five-game winning streak and have won seven of their last eight contests. They swept LSU last weekend, scoring 26 runs and tallying 32 hits in the series, both season highs in SEC play, according to team sources.

Ole Miss has been led offensively by Hayden Federico, who hit .714 last week with six walks, three hit-by-pitches, four RBIs, and three runs scored. Owen Paino, who hit his first two home runs of the season, drove in eight runs with a slugging percentage of 1.083. On the mound, Walker Hooks recorded a win and a save, pitching four innings and allowing just one baserunner while striking out five batters.

The team’s pitching staff boasts a 3.72 ERA, the fourth-lowest in the Southeastern Conference, with 419 strikeouts, second-most in the SEC and fifth in the NCAA. Key pitchers include Hunter Elliott, ranked fifth in the SEC with 68 strikeouts, and Cade Townsend, who has struck out at least six batters in all but one of his starts.

Southern Miss, with a 25-11 record and ranked as high as No. 20 nationally, is coming off a series loss to Louisiana. The Golden Eagles are led offensively by Joey Urban, batting .324 with nine home runs and 63 RBIs, and Kyle Morrison, who has 11 homers. Their projected starting pitcher is freshman Bruce Littleton, a 6-foot-2 left-hander from Vestavia Hills, Alabama, with a 1.04 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 10 appearances.
