Millsaps Tennis Teams Finish Regular Season with Losses to Texas Foes

The Millsaps College men’s and women’s tennis programs wrapped up their regular season with matches against Texas schools over the weekend. Both teams suffered losses at the Coach Montgomery Courts in Jackson, Mississippi.

The men’s team fell 5-2 to No. 30 Southwestern University on Saturday and was swept 7-0 by nationally ranked Trinity University on Sunday. The women’s team lost 7-0 to Southwestern and was also defeated 7-0 by Trinity in their Sunday match, with Skylar Spinks earning the most points in singles for Millsaps against Trinity, according to team reports.

In Saturday’s match against Southwestern, Riley McClain secured six points in singles action. The women’s doubles team of Cepeda and Locke lost 6-0, while the team of Powell and Duncan lost by forfeit. Other singles results included losses for Malakie Smith, Virginia Trible, and Graham Bella-Bennett, with Perkins also forfeiting her match.

The women’s team faced a challenging match against No. 9 Trinity on Sunday, where Trinity’s Rosabella Andrade and Trinity Levy each secured two wins in doubles. Millsaps’s doubles team of Smith and McClain lost 6-2. In singles, McClain lost 6-0, 6-1, and the team faced additional defeats from Trinity players Andrade, Tin, Kerman, Schmidt, and Vo, with several players earning forfeit wins.

The men’s team also faced ranked opponents, starting Saturday with an 5-2 defeat to Southwestern. Anderson Causey and Sam Tuli scored points for Millsaps, with Causey winning in straight sets and Tuli clinching his match in a tiebreaker. Doubles teams of Langford/Snyman and Clemente/Patel lost, as did singles players including Causey, Tuli, and others, in tightly contested matches.

On Sunday, the men’s team concluded their weekend with a 7-0 loss to No. 19 Trinity. Tuli and Jon Nguyen each won a set in singles but lost in tiebreakers. The team faced defeats across doubles and singles, with Trinity players earning decisive victories in all matches, according to team reports.

Millsaps will host Maryville College for Senior Day on Saturday, April 18. The women’s match will start at 9 a.m., followed by the men’s at 11 a.m. Senior Day festivities will follow both matches, according to school officials.
