MUW Softball earns second straight ABCA Academic Excellence Award

Mississippi University for Women’s softball team has received the 2025-26 Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association, marking its second straight year earning the honor, the university announced.

The award recognizes ABCA member programs that posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the academic year. MUW’s squad achieved a GPA of 3.40 last season, according to the ABCA.

Overall, more than 800 high school and college programs nationwide received the award, presented by Sports Attack. Among collegiate recipients, 103 were from NCAA Division III, with MUW one of just four programs from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, alongside Webster University, Westminster College, and Principia College.

Head coach Scott Mularz expressed pride in the team’s academic achievement. “I am very proud of our program to have once again earned this honor from the ABCA,” he said. “Academics are a core value of not just our team, but of our university, the SLIAC, and NCAA Division III. While we always strive for success on the diamond, it is paramount that our players remember that their main goal is to be prepared for the real world when baseball is over.”

The ABCA has a long history of recognizing student-athlete achievement, including awards such as the ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams, established in 1949, and the Hall of Fame and Ethics in Coaching awards.
