STARKVILLE — Mississippi State’s softball team used a detailed plan to reach the Women’s College World Series, according to players and coaches. The Bulldogs are the only unseeded team in Oklahoma City, having recently defeated Oklahoma in the super regional after winning a road regional in Oregon.
MSU players said they created a visual roadmap early in the fall to guide their season. Morgan Stiles, an infielder, explained that the team drew their journey on a glass board outside the film room, marking every milestone from the first practice to recent games. The map included drawings of team members and motivational sayings.
Coach and players credit the map for keeping them focused through setbacks and tough moments. Peja Goold, an outfielder, noted that despite challenges late in conference, the team could see their goal of reaching Oklahoma City remained attainable. The visual served as a constant reminder of their destination.
Now, the Bulldogs will play their first WCWS game Thursday at 11 a.m. against Texas Tech. Goold reflected on the significance of their journey, saying the map helped visualize their season’s potential. Morgan Stiles added that their goals were clear from the start, with a national championship trophy drawn on their plan, symbolizing their ultimate aim.
MSU’s run to the series marks the program’s first appearance in the WCWS, a historic achievement for the team. The players and coaching staff have expressed pride in their accomplishment, which was mapped out months ago and became a reality through focus and determination.
