Mississippi State Soccer Looks to Extend Unbeaten Streak Against Alcorn State

STARKVILLE, Miss. — The Mississippi State women’s soccer team aims to extend its eight-match winning streak against in-state opponents when it hosts Alcorn State on Sunday at 6 p.m. The match will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs, according to school officials.

Mississippi State (4-0-0) has not lost a regular-season, non-conference home match since Aug. 31, 2023. The Bulldogs have won 13 consecutive home games against Mississippi schools, with their last loss to an in-state opponent coming in the final game of the 2019 season.

The Bulldogs already have scored 13 goals this season, putting them on pace to match the program’s record for goals through the first five games. If they outscore Alcorn State by three or more goals on Sunday, they will set a new school record for goal differential through five matches.

Alcorn State (1-2-0) enters the game after a stretch of high-scoring contests. The Lady Braves’ last two matches saw a combined 18 goals, including a 7-4 win over Nicholls State. Led by forward Grace Ambrose, who has four goals and 10 points, Alcorn State is looking to challenge the Bulldogs’ defensive record.

Mississippi State’s offense has been prolific, with the team scoring twice in less than six minutes in 20 of the last 19 matches over the past decade. The Bulldogs also feature two players, Kati Anne Shepherd and Hailey Johnson, who are close to reaching 10 points early in the season. The team has also limited opponents to a school-record 4.5 shots per game this year.

Following Sunday’s game, Mississippi State will conclude a six-match homestand with two upcoming matches next week at the MSU Soccer Field. The Bulldogs will host Louisiana on Thursday at 6 p.m. and Charlotte on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed on SEC Network+.
