No. 5 Dallas Baptist tops Mississippi Christian 6-0 in women’s soccer

CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi Christian University’s women’s soccer team fell to No. 5 Dallas Baptist 6-0 on Saturday at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.

The Patriots (1-0-0) scored early and kept the pressure on, leading 5-0 at halftime before adding another goal in the second half. Ashley Washburn opened the scoring in the second minute, followed by Emma Croley’s goal in the sixth minute. Riley Olsen and McKenna Vela added goals to push Dallas Baptist’s lead to four by the 18th minute.

Kenzi Tufts scored late in the first half, assisted by Skylar Belanger, giving the Patriots a five-goal advantage at the break. Mississippi Christian goalkeeper Brynn Hedberg made several saves during the first half to keep the score from escalating further.

In the second half, the Lady Choctaws looked for offensive opportunities. Jaylen Bodry forced a save from Leslie Miller, the Dallas Baptist goalkeeper. Olivia Graham and Kerri O’Hara also took shots for MC, but neither found the net. The Patriots added their final goal in the 64th minute when Croley scored her second of the game, assisted by Tufts.

Mississippi Christian continued to attack, with shots from Cooper Holmes and Jadyn LoBue-Holzer, but both attempts missed the target. Hedberg finished with eight saves on 29 shots faced. Bodry had MC’s only shot on goal, with Graham and O’Hara each recording one shot.

The Lady Choctaws now hold a 1-1-0 record on the season. They will next face Oklahoma Christian on Thursday in Edmond, Oklahoma, with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.
