Millsaps Softball Falls to Trinity in Series Finale in Texas
The Millsaps College softball team fell to Trinity University 5-3 Sunday at Trinity Softball Field in San Antonio.
Sophomore Kodi Jimmie went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and junior Ella Morgan Sears homered, scored twice, drove in a run, walked, and stole a base for the Majors, according to team reports. Second-year student Brynn Arena drew two walks and stole a base. Junior Allana Vasquez and freshman Liza Gregg each recorded a hit.
Hailey Marange pitched four innings, allowing no runs and one walk while facing 15 batters.
The Majors opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, with Sears hitting an inside-the-park home run to give Millsaps a 1-0 lead. Trinity responded quickly, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead. The Tigers added two more runs in the second inning, making it 5-1.
Millsaps responded in the third inning. Sears drew a walk and stole second, and Caroline Mathis followed with a walk. Jimmie then delivered a single up the middle, driving in Sears and Mathis to cut the deficit to 5-3. The Majors continued to fight, but Trinity maintained its lead to secure the win and complete the series sweep.
