Jackson State Pitcher Derek Arrocha Named SWAC Pitcher of the Week

Jackson State junior pitcher Derek Arrocha was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Arrocha earned the award after his performance in the series finale against Alabama State on Sunday.

In that game, Arrocha pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing six hits and one earned run. He struck out nine batters and issued only one walk, hitting two batters late in the game. Arrocha improved to 3-4 on the season with the win.

He was part of a Jackson State starting rotation that struck out 30 Alabama State batters in 19.1 innings over three games. The team’s pitching staff recorded a total of 38 strikeouts in the series.

Jackson State, with a 17-22 record overall and a 7-11 mark in SWAC play, will travel to Huntsville, Alabama, for a three-game conference series against Alabama A&M. The Tigers are aiming to strengthen their position in the standings with the upcoming games.
