Coca-Cola Donates $25,000 to Southwest Mississippi Baseball Before Series

Coca-Cola presented a $25,000 check to Southwest Mississippi Baseball before their doubleheader against Co-Lin on Wednesday, April 22, according to team officials.

Southwest Mississippi lost the first game 11-6 and the second 9-0. In game one, Matt Newman started on the mound and pitched 2.1 innings, taking the loss. Easton Boyte relieved him and pitched four innings, allowing just one earned run. Relief pitchers Camp Segrest, Nik Carney, and Luke Simmons finished the game.

The Bears held an early lead in game one, scoring four runs in the first two innings. Tanner Moore had three hits and two RBIs, while Cam Bolden, Jonathan Miller, and others contributed offensively. Despite a late rally in the ninth, Southwest fell short, with Luke Simmons scoring the final run in the eighth. Moore also stole two bases in the game.

Game two was a dominant performance by Co-Lin, with Southwest losing 9-0. Rhyson Carroway started for the Bears and pitched 3.2 innings. The team combined for two hits, with Justin Domiano and Jonathan Miller each recording a triple. Domiano also stole a base in the second game. The Bears now hold a 27-21 overall record and are 11-13 in conference play.

Southwest Mississippi is scheduled to travel to Booneville on Saturday, April 25, to face Northeast in their next game, officials said.
