No. 4 Jones College walks off Hinds in nightcap for split
ELLISVILLE — Jones College split a doubleheader against Hinds Community College on Wednesday at Community Bank Park. The Bobcats won the nightcap 10-0 in five innings, while the Eagles took the first game 4-1, according to school officials.
In the second game, Brayson Graham pitched a shutout, allowing just six hits and striking out seven. Kelan Guidry delivered a two-out, solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game via walk-off. The victory moves Jones to 34-13 overall and 17-7 in the MACCC. Hinds is now 27-20 overall and 13-13 in conference play.
In the first game, Jacob Galloway threw a complete-game three-hitter for Hinds. Warren Hutchinson scored the Bobcats’ only run in the first inning after walking, advancing on a groundout, and scoring on a single by Sanders Ainsworth. Jones scored in the fifth on a single by Brody Breithaupt following a walk and error. Hinds added a run in the seventh when Ryder Molea doubled and scored on a single by Brody Breithaupt. Colton Smith pitched for Jones, allowing four runs, one earned, over seven innings.
The second game saw Jones take an early 2-0 lead in the second inning, aided by hits and errors. The Bobcats expanded their lead to 5-0 in the third and 9-0 in the fourth, highlighted by Guidry’s third home run of the season. Russell finished 3-for-3 with a double and two singles, while Guidry homered and singled. Ainsworth and Reeves each doubled and had two RBIs apiece for Jones. Hinds’ Brady Griffin took the loss, allowing five runs over 2.1 innings.
The teams will continue their season with upcoming doubleheaders, with Jones visiting Itawamba on April 25 and hosting Northwest on April 29, as part of the final stretch before postseason play.
