Four Mississippi State Baseball Players Invited to USA Baseball Training Camp
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Four Mississippi State baseball players will compete for a spot on the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team this summer. Pitchers Jack Bauer, Ryan McPherson, Tomas Valincius, and outfielder Jacob Parker were all invited to training camp in Cary, North Carolina, scheduled for next month, according to the university.
McPherson and current teammate Ace Reese previously played on the national team last year that traveled to Japan. Valincius participated in training camp last summer. Bauer has pitched for USA Baseball’s 16/17U National Team Development Program and 18U team trials, the university said.
Since 1984, 23 Mississippi State players and coaches have been selected for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. The upcoming camp will divide participants into two teams, Stars and Stripes, to compete in three doubleheaders against Appalachian League opponents from June 27-29. The annual Stars versus Stripes series will run from June 30 to July 4 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary.
The final roster will be announced July 5. Selected players will then participate in the inaugural World Collegiate Baseball Championship in Taichung City, Taiwan, from July 11-15, facing teams from China, Japan, and Taiwan.
