Auburn rallies with ninth-inning homer to tie series at Mississippi State
No. 6 Auburn scored a walk-off run on Chase Fralick’s leadoff homer in the ninth inning, defeating Mississippi State 5-4 Friday night at Dudy Noble Field. The Tigers’ late-inning heroics prevented the Diamond Dawgs from sweeping the series, which now stands tied at one game each.
Auburn took an early lead with a three-run third inning, highlighted by a sacrifice fly from Fralick and an RBI single from Cooper Rembert. The Tigers extended their lead to 4-0 in the fifth, thanks to a pair of RBI singles from Mason McCraine and Eric Bingaman.
Mississippi State mounted a comeback, scoring four runs over the next four innings. Kevin Milewski and Ryder Woodson contributed key singles, and Reese doubled twice, driving in two runs. Stallman’s two-run homer in the eighth tied the game at 4-4 before Auburn’s ninth-inning blast sealed the victory.
Starting pitcher Duke Stone allowed four runs on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings for Mississippi State. Jackson Sanders earned the win in relief for Auburn, allowing two runs over 4 1/3 innings. The series continues Saturday at 3 p.m. on SEC Network, featuring MSU’s Ryan McPherson against Auburn’s Alex Petrovic.
