Hunter Elliott Achieves 300th Career Strikeout as Ole Miss Defeats Texas A&M

Hunter Elliott pitched six innings, allowing one earned run on five hits, to lead Ole Miss to a 5-3 victory over Texas A&M on Friday at Swayze Field, according to the university’s athletics department.

With the win, Elliott (5-2) tied his career high with 11 strikeouts and recorded his 300th career strikeout, joining Drew Pomeranz and Lance Lynn as the only Rebels to reach that mark. He finished with 304 strikeouts and is continuing to climb the school’s all-time list, the department said.

Calhoun pitched a single inning in relief, facing four batters with one strikeout. Hooks earned his sixth save of the season, pitching the final two innings with two hits and one unearned run allowed, along with three strikeouts.

Ole Miss scored in the first inning on a groundout by Will Furniss, who drove in Dom Decker, who reached on a walk. The Rebels added runs in the second and fourth innings before extending their lead in the seventh. Furniss doubled in Judd Utermark, and Tristan Bissetta followed with a single to push Ole Miss ahead 5-2.

Texas A&M scored once in the eighth but could not rally further. The Aggies finished with seven hits, while Ole Miss had nine. Ethan Darden (4-1) took the loss for Texas A&M.

The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday, with games starting at 2 p.m., according to Ole Miss athletics.

Ole Miss (33-17, 13-12 SEC) and Texas A&M (36-11, 15-9 SEC) will continue their series over the weekend, with postseason play upcoming, the department added.
