Alcorn Track Advances Several Athletes at SWAC Outdoor Championships
BATON ROUGE, La. — Alcorn State University made significant progress on both the men’s and women’s sides during the second day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships at A.W. Mumford Stadium on the campus of Southern University.
In the women’s 100-meter dash, Izayla Harris qualified for the finals with a time of 11.62 seconds. Sariah Magee finished 13th in the preliminaries with a time of 11.74 seconds, while Kayotric Taplin posted a time of 13.88 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles. On the men’s side, Desmyn McCall advanced to the finals in the 110-meter hurdles with a mark of 14.50 seconds.
Alcorn’s Lanise Chilton finished 14th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:24.05, followed by Erin Barr at 2:26.78. In the 400 meters, Trellas Forrest and Preston Summage posted qualifying times of 47.22 and 47.87 seconds, respectively. Darrian Wells led the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a sixth-place finish at 11:20.69. Jadan Miller finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 15.43 meters (50-07.50).
On the team leaderboard, Southern University leads the women with 53.5 points, followed by Alabama A&M with 42 and Texas Southern with 32. On the men’s side, Jackson State holds the top spot with 74 points. Texas Southern and Bethune-Cookman are tied for second with 44 points each.
The final day of the championships will be streamed live on SWAC TV starting at 5 p.m. CST, with the women’s 4×100 meter relay scheduled to conclude the meet.
