Texas women’s soccer beats Ole Miss 2-0 at Oxford

OXFORD, Miss. — Texas women’s soccer defeated Ole Miss 2-0 Sunday at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium. The Longhorns improved to 6-2-3 overall and 1-1-2 in SEC play.

Texas opened the scoring just 70 seconds into the match when Ashlyn Anderson netted her third goal of the season off an assist from Alicia Riggins. Ole Miss responded with a flurry of chances, forcing Texas goalkeeper Bayliss Flynn into three saves during a five-minute span in the first half.

The Rebels outshot the Longhorns 9-6 in the opening 45 minutes and continued to generate scoring opportunities. Sarah Granno, Teaghan Irvin, and Maizy Kluksdal each took shots for Ole Miss, but the score remained 1-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Texas doubled its lead at the 61:34 mark when Ava McDonald scored her fourth goal of the season assisted by Vivian Geesbreght. Ole Miss pushed forward, earning four corner kicks in the final 25 minutes, but could not find the back of the net.

Texas goalkeeper Bayliss Flynn made five saves to preserve the shutout, while Ole Miss’s Taylor Prigge finished with three saves in goal. Ole Miss (7-5-0, 0-4-0 SEC) returns to the road Friday to face Alabama at 7 p.m. CT.
