The University of Mississippi volleyball team defeated Alabama 3-0 in their SEC opener Sunday at Foster Auditorium in Tuscaloosa. The Rebels, now 7-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play, shut down the Crimson Tide offensively, limiting Alabama to a negative hitting percentage for the first time since 2017, according to Ole Miss sources.
Melia Johnson and Jorda Crook led the Rebels with 13 and 12 kills, respectively, contributing significantly to the team’s offensive effort. Ole Miss also tallied seven blocks combined from Johnson and Crook, helping to stifle Alabama’s attack. The Rebels’ defense kept the Crimson Tide to a -.022 hitting percentage, marking a notable defensive achievement.
Ole Miss took control early in the match, winning the first set 25-17. The Rebels maintained momentum in the second set, winning 25-19. In the third set, Alabama briefly led but Ole Miss rallied to secure a 25-23 victory, completing the sweep. The Rebels’ performance marked their first SEC victory over Alabama since 2017.
