Booneville wins third title in a row.
Booneville is known for winning state championships in basketball. All they know how to do is win. Their program has built a great name for themselves over the years. Their fans love to show up in great numbers to support the Blue Devils. Today, they were back again, ready to make it happen.
The Blue Devils started off the game ready to play. Landon Brown hit their first five points of the game. He was on fire to begin with to help his team get a great lead.
“I give it all the credit to these kids,” said Coach Michael Smith, head coach of Booneville. “Nobody sees all of the work that they put in. They work extremely hard to be back in this position every year.”
Coahoma County made it a close game and stuck around the whole game. At the end of the first, the game was tied at 8.
Both teams we go into halftime looking to settle down. Both teams were playing good defense, but some of their shots were not falling.
Kedrick Simmons started off the second half ready to roll. After having a steal in the first half, he came out during the second half ready to have a block party.
“I knew we had it,” said Simmons. “We had to keep ourselves calm and stay focused. That is how we got it done.”
The game went down to the wire. Regulation ended with the game tied at 36. Coahoma County struck first.
After Booneville settled down, it was time for Coahoma to try to make a quick score. Simmons stopped that with a nice block. Booneville would go on to win the game 46-43.
