Northeast sweeps Northwest in basketball
The Northeast Mississippi Community College Lady Tigers defeated the Northwest Mississippi Community College Lady Rangers 70-65 inside Howard Coliseum.
Northwest led 36-30 at halftime and led by 10 points at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Rangers 25-10 in the fourth quarter to get the come from behind win.
The Lady Tigers held the Lady Rangers to 23.5% from the field and zero of four of from three-point range in the fourth quarter. Northeast shot 57.1% from the field and three of four from three-point range to propel the fourth quarter comeback.
Northeast was led in scoring by Ella Mask with 21 points followed by Madison Gardner with 14, Alexis Rowe with 12 and Madison Bennett with 11. Northwest was led in scoring by Taylor Caldwell with 16 points followed by Kae’la Mitchell with 13.
In men’s action, Northeast defeated Northwest 109-73 inside Bonner Arnold Coliseum.
In the first half, Northeast used a 22-0 run over eight minutes to gain a 66-25 advantage at halftime.
The Tigers shot 70% from the field and made nine of 15 three pointers in the first half.
Northeast had 33 assists on 41 made field goals.
Northeast was led in scoring by Jalin Rice with 20 points followed by Trey Tate with 16, Keithean Brooks with 16, Corey Stephenson with 15, Steven Gentry, Jr. with 13, Caleb Parr with 11 and Anthony Johnson with 10. Northwest was led in scoring by Jaylon Sanders with 14 points followed by Jordan Johnson with 11 and Marquavous Jones with 11.
