No. 7 Life edges William Carey 1-0 in men’s soccer

Marietta, Georgia — The William Carey men’s soccer team lost 1-0 to No. 7 Life University in a hard-fought road game Friday night. The match featured few scoring opportunities, with both defenses playing aggressively.

Life generated the first serious threat when Andrei Apostu tested William Carey goalkeeper Yago Darub in the 20th minute. Darub made the save, keeping the game scoreless. The Crusaders responded with their only shot on goal of the first half when Fernando Pirry challenged Life goalkeeper Pawel Wolny, who also came up with a save. The first half ended without any goals.

In the second half, offensive pressure increased for both teams, but quality chances remained limited. Life broke the deadlock in the 68th minute when they exploited a gap in the Carey defense to score the game-winning goal. Despite pushing forward in search of an equalizer, William Carey was unable to find the net.

The Crusaders return to action Sunday, Sept. 27, when they travel to Dalton, Georgia, to face Dalton State College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m., according to team officials.
