Southern Miss Volleyball Sweeps Louisiana Tech in Conference Opener

Ruston, La. — Southern Miss (10-2, 1-0 Sun Belt) opened conference play with a sweep of Louisiana Tech (7-8, 0-1 Sun Belt) Friday night at the Thomas Assembly Center. The Golden Eagles won 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-23), marking their third consecutive season starting Sun Belt play with a 3-0 record.

Southern Miss hit .257 as a team, including a .368 mark in the second set, while limiting Louisiana Tech to a .150 hitting percentage, according to the match statistics. Sadie McAda led the Golden Eagles with her milestone performance, surpassing 1,000 career kills. She also recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 15 kills and 10 digs, finishing with a .429 attack percentage.

McAda reached 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs earlier this season. Sunni Sheppard had her third 20-plus-dig performance of the season, and Allie Hazelwood contributed 37 assists, her sixth match with at least 35 assists this season. Aubrey Judd added nine kills, while Lillie Johnson and Elly Stewart chipped in with six and seven kills, respectively.

Southern Miss dropped the opening point of each set but responded quickly each time. The team took control in the first set after an early deficit, then extended its lead in the second and third sets to secure the victory. McAda closed out the match with her 15th kill on the final point.
