Marietta, Georgia — The William Carey women’s soccer team secured a significant Southern States Athletic Conference win Friday, beating No. 10 Life University 3-1 on the road.
The Lady Crusaders opened the scoring in the third minute when Boo Mills delivered a corner kick that Alba Aguado headed into the net. Five minutes later, goalkeeper Alicia Garwood launched a long punt that found Paola Alvarez behind the defense, who finished to give Carey a 2-0 advantage.
Life University responded in the 31st minute with a penalty kick that cut the deficit to 2-1. Neither team scored again before halftime, as defenses tightened.
Carey extended its lead in the 65th minute when Mills again delivered a corner kick, setting up Susan De Souza Santos for a header at the back post. The Lady Crusaders held firm defensively after that, limiting Life to just one shot in the final 25 minutes to seal the victory.
William Carey will play next Sunday against Dalton State College in Dalton, Georgia, with kickoff scheduled for 12:30 p.m., according to team officials.
