CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College and Christian Brothers finished in a 1-1 draw Wednesday at Robert P. Longabaugh Field, in Gulf South Conference women’s soccer play. The Choctaws outshot the Buccaneers 18-5 overall, including a 9-4 edge in the second half. Both teams recorded four shots on goal.
Abby Badurak put Mississippi College ahead just 2 minutes, 19 seconds into the match, scoring off an assist from Karah Boydstun. The Choctaws maintained pressure throughout the first half, with Jaylen Bodry, Badurak, Olivia Graham and Lillie McCutchen testing the Christian Brothers defense. Mississippi College held a 1-0 lead at halftime after limiting the Buccaneers to just one shot in the opening 45 minutes.
The Choctaws continued to attack early in the second half, earning two corner kicks within the first seven minutes and creating scoring chances from Aidyn Hagan and McCutchen. Christian Brothers equalized in the 70th minute when Frida Bergqvist scored to make it 1-1.
Both teams pressed for a late winner. Mississippi College earned three corner kicks in the final six minutes. Michelle Melancon’s shot in the 72nd minute was saved, and Cooper Holmes’ attempt in the 89th minute was stopped by goalkeeper Kaylee Allen, preserving the draw.
Bodry led Mississippi College with five shots, while Badurak added three shots and one on goal. Boydstun recorded one assist, and Paityn Settlemires played all 90 minutes in goal, making one save.
Mississippi College moves to 4-2-2 overall and 1-1-2 in conference play. Christian Brothers stands at 1-6-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the Gulf South Conference. The Choctaws are scheduled to face Lee University on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Cleveland, Tennessee.
