CLINTON, Miss. — Karim Gegg scored twice, including the go-ahead goal, leading Mississippi Christian to a 3-1 victory over Union (Tenn.) on Saturday at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.
Union took an early lead in the 13th minute when George McDonnell found the net. Mississippi Christian responded with goals from Gegg in the 26th and 34th minutes, giving the Choctaws a 2-1 halftime lead. Gegg’s first goal was assisted by Alvaro Pena, while his second was set up by Lian Feridani.
Mississippi Christian continued to control the game after halftime, outshooting Union 22-7 and putting nine shots on goal compared to two for the Bulldogs. Luke Nolan added an insurance goal in the 86th minute, capping the scoring for the Choctaws.
Union threatened late, creating several scoring chances between the 79th and 90th minutes, including a shot that hit the right post. Mississippi Christian goalkeeper Santiago Dominguez made one save, turning away a final attempt by Christopher Cerda in stoppage time.
Gegg finished with seven shots, three on goal, while Pena had four shots with two on target. Nolan recorded two shots, with one on goal. Dominguez played all 90 minutes for Mississippi Christian.
The Choctaws will next play on Sept. 19 at Trevecca Nazarene at 3:30 p.m.
