Lee Tops Mississippi Christian 1-0 in Women’s Soccer

Cleveland, Tenn. — Mississippi Christian lost to Lee 1-0 in a women’s soccer conference game Saturday at Ray Conn Sports Complex. The Choctaws kept the match scoreless through the first half but conceded the only goal early in the second half.

Mississippi Christian was limited to three shots, with only one on goal, while Lee fired 18 shots and earned six saves from goalkeeper Paityn Settlemires. The Choctaws’ defense held Lee without a goal in the first half, with Settlemires saving all four shots on target. She also made saves in the 14th, 19th, and 22nd minutes to keep the game scoreless.

Jaylen Bodry had MC’s only shot on goal in the 31st minute, but Abby Whitcomb saved it. Settlemires added a save on Siri Stenslie in the 33rd minute. The teams went into halftime tied at 0-0, with Mississippi Christian absorbing pressure from Lee’s multiple corner kicks and shots.

In the second half, Lee’s offense intensified. The game remained tied until the 82nd minute, when Addie Chapman scored the match-winning goal for the Flames. Earlier, Settlemires made two saves in the second half, and Lee’s offense applied sustained pressure, including six corner kicks and a shot off the left woodwork in the 75th minute.

Mississippi Christian’s best chances came from Bodry in the 71st minute and Hagan in the 62nd minute, but none resulted in goals. The Choctaws finished with two second-half shots, while Lee attempted 12. Lee improved to 6-1-1 overall and 4-1-0 in conference play, while Mississippi Christian fell to 4-3-2 overall and 1-2-2 in conference.
