Jackson State Finishes Fourth at Season-Opening Golf Tournament

Jackson, Miss. — Jackson State finished fourth overall at the season-opening TheeILove Intercollegiate golf tournament, held at The Refuge Golf Course. The Tigers posted a team score of 887, 13 shots behind third-place Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Trace Carpenter and JD Berndt both finished in a tie for eighth place individually, each shooting a total of 219 over the two days. Carpenter shot a final-round 73, climbing the leaderboard after an even-par 73 in Monday’s final 18 holes. Berndt closed with a 75 after opening with a 73 and shooting a 71 in the final round.

Prairie View A&M captured the team title with a score of 860, finishing four strokes under par. Texas Southern and Arkansas-Pine Bluff finished second and third, respectively. Carpenter and Berndt were among five Jackson State players who competed in the tournament.

Individual medalist honors went to Prairie View A&M’s Josh Bramwell, who shot a 208 (-8). The Tigers will continue their season with upcoming tournaments, according to team officials.
