Prairie View Sweeps Alcorn in SWAC Softball Doubleheader

Prairie View A&M swept Alcorn in a Southwestern Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Friday at Lady Panthers Softball Stadium in Prairie View, Texas. The Panthers took the first game 8-3 and won the second 12-0 in five innings.

In the opening game, Dyani McKinley went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs to lead Prairie View. The third baseman also stole two bases and hit a solo homer in the sixth inning, helping the Panthers secure the win. Prairie View jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and extended it with three more runs in the second, including McKinley’s double. Alcorn answered with a run in the second but could not keep pace.

Kayla Adams pitched all seven innings for Prairie View, allowing three runs on 12 hits and striking out three. Alcorn’s Alainah Felton suffered the loss, surrendering five runs in two innings. Despite the loss, Alcorn out-hit Prairie View 12-7, with Yahnya Acevedo going 3-for-3 and Olivia Miller adding two hits.

In the second game, Prairie View’s offense was dominant from the start, sending 14 batters to the plate in an 11-run first inning. The Panthers scored eight times before recording a single out. Reagan Green led with one hit and three RBIs, while Mia Nunez went 2-for-2 with a triple, double and an RBI.

Prairie View’s pitcher Yazmyn Stewart threw four shutout innings, allowing four hits and striking out two. Caden Young finished the game with a clean fifth inning. Alcorn managed only four hits and was shut out in the five-inning game. Chiara Olison took the loss after surrendering all five runs in her first inning of work.

The teams will conclude the series Saturday at noon at Lady Panthers Softball Stadium.
