Belhaven and Pensacola State Draw 1-1 in Women’s Soccer
JACKSON, Miss. — Jensen Ward scored for Belhaven late in the first half, but Pensacola State responded within two minutes, resulting in a 1-1 draw Thursday night at Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
Belhaven controlled much of the play early, with Abby Jordan forcing a save in the 10th minute. The Blazers also earned two quick corner kicks just after the 30-minute mark. Jordan Robinson set up Ward’s goal at 37:19 to give Belhaven the lead.
Pensacola State equalized at 38:46 when Julianna Williams scored unassisted, sending the match into halftime tied. Neither team was able to find the back of the net after the break, though both sides created chances. Mary McCardle and Faith Dreyer missed wide for Belhaven, while Sidney Roest made a key save on Tamryn DenHerder’s shot in the 77th minute.
Belhaven had one final opportunity in stoppage time, earning a corner with 17 seconds remaining. Keelin Gray’s shot went wide as time expired. The Blazers outshot the Pirates 8-6, with each team taking four shots on goal. Williams led Pensacola State with four attempts, while Roest played all 90 minutes and recorded one save.
