Eureka beats MUW men’s soccer 5-0 in SLIAC matchup

EUREKA, Ill. — Missouri Western University’s men’s soccer team lost a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Eureka College on Thursday, 5-0.

The Owls are now 0-8 overall and 0-2 in the conference. Eureka improved to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in the SLIAC.

In the first half, MUW was the more aggressive team, out-shooting Eureka 7-3. Despite that, the Red Devils led 2-0 at halftime, scoring 29 seconds into the game and again in the 24th minute. Eureka added three more goals in the second half.

Sebastian Araya and Joao Pais led MUW with three and two shot attempts, respectively, with both registering two shots on target. Eureka held a 13-9 shot advantage for the match.

Starting goalkeeper Will Rickman made four saves and allowed four goals in 57 minutes. Kenneth Starr made one save and permitted one goal.

The Owls will attempt to rebound Saturday at 3 p.m. in a conference game against Principia College.
