Ozarks scores three in second half to beat Mississippi University for Women 5-3

The Mississippi University for Women men’s soccer team fell 5-3 to the University of the Ozarks in a non-conference match at the Roger Short Soccer Complex. The Owls dropped to 0-2-0 on the season, while the Eagles improved to 1-1-1, according to school officials.

MUW took an early lead. Senior Jordan Ware scored in the 8th minute off a pass from Sebastian Araya to put the Owls ahead 1-0. The Eagles equalized in the 33rd minute, but MUW regained the lead 28 seconds later when Drake Ballard scored his first goal as an Owl from seven yards out, making it 2-1 at halftime.

However, the second half was dominated by the Eagles, who scored three unanswered goals in the 50th, 60th, and 77th minutes. Despite the deficit, Araya scored his first goal as an Owl in the 84th minute to narrow the gap to 4-3. The Eagles added an insurance goal in the 89th minute, sealing the victory.

MUW is scheduled to host Piedmont University on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in another non-conference game, according to athletic department officials.
