William Carey Student-Athletes Honored at Hoo’s Who Awards

William Carey University held its 2025-26 Hoo’s Who Athletics Awards Ceremony last week at the Rent Auditorium in Columbus, Mississippi. The event honored student-athletes for accomplishments across sports, academics, and community engagement, according to school officials.

Awards included Rookie of the Year, with Ariella Jones of track and field and Tray Huguley of basketball earning top honors. Skye Letson of volleyball and Zach Johnson of baseball received the Clutch Performer awards for performance under pressure. Adayah Wood of soccer and Ridge Harrison of basketball were named Hype Men and Women for their energy and morale boosting.

Other awards recognized outstanding individual performances, with Mia Bowen of basketball and Joe Haze Austin of basketball earning top honors. Bowen scored 32 points with 15 rebounds against Lyon, while Austin recorded the first triple-double in school history. Calysia Phillips of basketball and Jordan Ware of soccer were named Comeback Athletes for overcoming adversity.

Teams celebrated their top moments, including volleyball’s first-ever SLIAC playoff victory and the basketball team’s championship win. The softball team was named the top community engager, logging 540 hours of service this season. Andrew Moneymaker, director of housing and residence life, was honored as Friend of the Owls for his contributions to athletics.

The school also recognized the top academic teams, with women’s soccer earning a 3.55 GPA. The Owl of the Year awards went to Conley Langford of basketball and Kaitlyn Bearley of softball. Several student-athletes were inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma honor society, including Jackson Reid of men’s basketball and Calysia Phillips of women’s basketball.
