Games To Watch: Unbeaten Bruce visits Myrtle in region showdown

Bruce’s perfect football season faces a team with an unbeaten region record of its own tonight. The 8–0 Trojans visit 6–1 Myrtle on Thursday, October 22, 2026, pairing Bruce’s 2–0 start in Class 2A Region 2 with the Hawks’ 3–0 mark. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT.

The evening’s selection also follows Starkville’s effort to earn a second region victory at Murrah, Biggersville’s search for a first league win at Smithville, and Leake Academy’s unbeaten basketball start on the road at Grace Christian. All four boys varsity games are scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT.

Bruce at Myrtle: unbeaten region starts meet

The Myrtle matchup brings together two teams that have kept winning through the region schedule. Bruce has won all eight of its games; Myrtle has won six straight after its opening loss. Their overall records make this a strong meeting, while the clean league marks give it a direct bearing on the region race.

Both arrive off October 16 victories, reached by different scores. Bruce defeated Palmer 41–6, while Myrtle held off Water Valley 24–18 in conference play. The Hawks’ latest win kept their league record clean before the visit from the unbeaten Trojans.

Starkville at Murrah: a chance to build on Clinton

Starkville enters Jackson at 5–2 overall and 1–1 in Class 7A Region 2. Its 31–17 victory at Clinton on October 16 followed a 38–28 loss to Germantown on October 9, giving the Yellowjackets a league win to build on. Murrah enters 1–7 overall and 0–2 in the region, still seeking its first league victory.

Our October 9 football roundup covered Starkville’s loss to Germantown. The subsequent win at Clinton evened the Yellowjackets’ region record; tonight’s conference game at Murrah offers the chance to earn a second region victory.

Biggersville at Smithville: first region wins at stake

Smithville brings a 4–3 record and two consecutive victories into its Class 1A Region 1 opener. Biggersville arrives 2–6 overall and 0–1 in the region after a 44–0 loss to Tupelo Christian Prep on October 16. The matchup gives each team an opportunity to record its first league win, with the Lions trying to answer a shutout defeat.

Boys basketball: Leake Academy takes its unbeaten start to Louisville

Leake Academy enters its visit to Grace Christian with a 2–0 record. The Rebels defeated Amory Christian Academy 42–28 in a neutral-site nonconference game October 19; tonight they face a Grace Christian team listed at 0–0. The Louisville game is also nonconference, offering Leake another early test away from home.
