Games To Watch: MAIS title-game spots, MHSAA openers and unbeaten soccer tests

A place in the MAIS Class 4A Division I championship game is on the line Friday, November 6, when Madison-Ridgeland Academy hosts Hartfield Academy and Jackson Prep welcomes Jackson Academy. Both semifinals kick off at 7 p.m. Central, with the winners scheduled to meet in the November 13 final.

MHSAA first-round games add another set of elimination stakes, while girls soccer offers two meetings between unbeaten teams: Oxford at Brandon and Sumrall at Northwest Rankin. For the latest confirmed finals before tonight, see our Scores from last Night recap.

Football: MAIS semifinal rematches carry title-game stakes

Madison-Ridgeland Academy enters 8-2 against 6-4 Hartfield Academy in Madison. MRA won the earlier meeting 42-21 on September 4. The Hawks now get a playoff rematch at 7 p.m.; this time, a berth in the final rather than a regular-season result is at stake.

Jackson Prep brings a 10-1 record into its home game against 8-2 Jackson Academy at 7 p.m. The Patriots won 35-24 on October 2. The posted MAIS bracket places this semifinal alongside MRA-Hartfield, giving both visiting teams another chance against an opponent that beat them earlier in the season.

Football: Bruce and Kosciusko host strong first-round tests

Bruce is 9-1 entering its 7 p.m. home game against 8-2 Eupora. The Class 2A bracket pairs the Trojans, the second seed from Region 2, with the Eagles, the third seed from Region 4. Both arrive with winning records, but only one advances from this opening-round matchup. Our earlier Bruce coverage follows the Trojans through the regular season.

Kosciusko enters 9-1 against 6-2 Itawamba Agricultural for a 7 p.m. Class 4A opener. The bracket gives the winner a second-round meeting with the winner of Corinth-Ripley on November 13, tying these two first-round games together beyond tonight.

Football: Alcorn County teams open their playoff paths

Corinth hosts Ripley at 7 p.m. in Class 4A, with the Warriors 6-3 and the Tigers 2-8. Kossuth, also 6-3, hosts 3-7 Amanda Elzy at the same time in Class 3A. Alcorn County Sports lists both local kickoffs, and the exact game pages identify them as playoff contests.

Alcorn Central takes a 5-5 record to 8-1 O’Bannon in Greenville for a Class 3A game at 7 p.m. Biggersville travels to Okolona at 7 p.m. in Class 1A, with the Lions 2-7 and the Chieftains 5-5. Those road assignments complete the county schedule selected here.

Girls soccer: unbeaten starts meet in the Brandon area

Oxford brings a 2-0 start to Brandon, which is 3-0, for a 5:30 p.m. non-conference match. The current girls varsity listing puts two early winning runs alongside each other, with the Chargers on the road against the Bulldogs.

Sumrall is 5-0 entering its 6:45 p.m. visit to Northwest Rankin in Brandon. The Cougars are listed at 1-0 in the non-conference matchup. Sumrall has the longer winning start on the record sheet; Northwest Rankin has a chance to follow its first listed win with another against an unbeaten visitor.

In Olive Branch, Center Hill hosts DeSoto Central for girls soccer at 5 p.m. and boys soccer at 7 p.m. The Mustangs enter 1-0 in the girls game against the 1-3 Jaguars, and 2-0 in the boys game against a DeSoto Central team listed at 1-1-1. Both matches are non-conference.

Boys basketball: Meridian visits the defending 7A champion

Meridian visits Starkville at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats are listed at 1-0, with the Yellowjackets at 0-0. Starkville won the 2026 boys Class 7A championship on March 6, adding a recent title to the background of this early-season, non-conference meeting.

Basketball: Pine Grove hosts East Union

Pine Grove hosts East Union for girls basketball at 6 p.m. and boys basketball at 7:30 p.m. Both Panthers teams are listed at 1-0, while both East Union teams are shown at 0-0. Tippah Sports confirms the home doubleheader times, giving Pine Grove a chance to build on its opening wins.
