Games To Watch: JA–Prep rematch, MRA–Hartfield rubber match decide MAIS finalists
Jackson Academy has beaten Jackson Prep in all three of their volleyball meetings this season. Madison-Ridgeland Academy and Hartfield Academy have traded wins. On Monday, October 19, those two matchups carry the same prize: a place in the MAIS Division I championship match.
The girls varsity semifinals are scheduled for court 2, with Jackson Prep facing Jackson Academy at 5 p.m. CDT and MRA meeting Hartfield at 6:30 p.m. CDT. The Division I bracket sends the winners into Tuesday’s final, October 20 at 6:30 p.m. on court 1.
Jackson Prep seeks a different answer against JA
Jackson Academy brings a 45–7 record into its semifinal against Jackson Prep, which enters 11–14. Prep must reverse a season series that stands 3–0 in JA’s favor to keep its championship path open.
The most recent meeting offers a clear measure of that task. Jackson Academy swept Prep on October 15, taking the sets 25–9, 25–15 and 25–17. The teams meet again Monday with advancement at stake.
MRA and Hartfield break a season split
The later MRA–Hartfield semifinal pairs teams with 27 wins apiece: MRA is 27–10, and Hartfield is 27–4. Neither team has controlled this head-to-head matchup. Each has won once.
MRA took the first meeting 3–0 on August 27. Hartfield answered with a 3–2 home victory on October 6, closing the fifth set 15–5. Tonight’s deciding meeting shifts to a neutral playoff setting, where the winner advances to the final.
