Southwest Women’s Tennis qualifies for 2026 NJCAA Division II National Championship

Southwest Women’s Tennis has earned an invitation to the 2026 NJCAA Division II Women’s Tennis Championship, scheduled for May 2-6 at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina, according to school officials.

The Lady Bears finished the regular season with a 9-10 record, including a 3-6 mark in conference play. They entered the Region 23 Championships as the No. 7 seed and faced Co-Lin in the first round.

The team is led by sophomores Martina Troncoso and Anna Comeaux. Freshmen Madelyn Powell, Anna Polk, Paula Tornos, Kayla Anderson, and Kai Jenkins also make up the roster. Troncoso and Tornos are the primary doubles pair and are expected to lead the team at the national tournament.

“For me, my teammates are like my family here. They mean a lot, and they are always supporting me,” Tornos said. “The team is always motivating you in the games or if you are having a bad day. You know that they are always there.”

Coaches Dean and Robin Clower, along with assistant coaches Alex Velasquez and Marcos Coves, oversee the team. The Lady Bears are set to compete in South Carolina in early May, aiming to make a strong showing at nationals.
