Southwest Mississippi Lady Bears Tennis Achieves Upset Wins at NJCAA Nationals

The Southwest Mississippi Women’s Tennis team competed at the NJCAA Division II Women’s Tennis Championship in Sumter, South Carolina, from May 2 to May 6, according to the school. The Lady Bears opened the tournament with singles wins from Kai Jenkins and Martina Troncoso after a rain delay.

On the second day, the team scored several notable upsets. Paula Tornos defeated third-ranked Jaedyn Martin of Wallace State in singles. Maddie Powell and Anna Comeaux earned a significant doubles victory over No. 8 Mesa Community College. Tornos and Troncoso also teamed up for a doubles win over No. 8 Coastal South’s Neda Kocyte and Jescimiel Mabiongo.

Madelyn Powell and Anna Comeaux reached the semifinals of the singles consolation bracket, while Kayla Anderson and Kai Jenkins advanced to the doubles consolation semifinals. The Lady Bears finished the tournament in 11th place with 17 points, concluding a successful season, according to the school.
