Southern Miss to Play in 2027 Frisco College Baseball Classic

Southern Miss has been announced as a participant in the 2027 Frisco College Baseball Classic, scheduled for March 5-7 at Riders Field in Frisco, Texas. The tournament features four top-tier college teams over three days in a round-robin format, with two games per day.

Peak Events, LLC, which hosts the event, will also feature the 2026 NCAA national champion Oklahoma, along with Kansas and UC Irvine. Ryan Holloway, CEO of Peak Events, described the tournament as one of the premier early-season college baseball events. He expressed excitement about the strong lineup, including the reigning national champions and other top programs.

Oklahoma secured its third national championship in 2026, rallying from regional elimination to sweep through the College World Series bracket, defeating Alabama, Georgia, and North Carolina in the finals. The tournament will include a rematch of the Lawrence Super Regional between Oklahoma and Kansas, who finished strong in the 2026 season, with Kansas winning the Big 12 regular-season title and setting a program record with 45 wins.

Southern Miss enters the event after winning both the Sun Belt Conference regular-season and tournament titles, hosting the Hattiesburg Regional. UC Irvine, which has appeared in the College World Series twice, claimed its third Big West Conference title in 2025. The event aims to showcase elite college baseball talent and attract fans from across the region.
