Mississippi State’s Ace Reese Invited to MLB Draft Combine
PHOENIX — Mississippi State junior third baseman Ace Reese is participating in the MLB Draft Combine at Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is one of 334 prospects invited to the event, which runs through the week.
Reese is ranked as the No. 21 prospect in this year’s draft by MLB.com and is projected to be a first-round pick, according to the ranking. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound player from Canton, Texas, is the only Bulldogs player to start all 62 games this season. He hit .336 with 23 doubles, 24 home runs and 74 RBIs.
His 24 homers this season rank fourth in school history, and his 45 career homers tie him for ninth in MSU history with Tommy Raffo. Reese’s 74 RBIs led the Southeastern Conference and tied for the eighth-most in program history. He is among 194 college players and 140 high school athletes invited to participate in the combine, which includes on-field workouts, strength testing and showcases.
Other Mississippi State signees participating include shortstops Rocco Maniscalco and Noah Danza, pitchers Jake Carbaugh, Landon Brown, Wilson Andersen, outfielder Martin Shelar, and catcher Will Brick. Several of these prospects are ranked among the top 200 draft candidates, according to MLB.com.
The event schedule includes workouts on Tuesday and Wednesday, with additional strength and conditioning testing on Thursday and Friday. Fans can follow coverage through MLB Network, MLB.com and the MLB app. Mississippi State players Jacob Parker and his twin brother JoJo also participated in last year’s combine, according to school officials.
