Southern Miss Softball Hosts Georgia Southern in Weekend Series

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss softball will host Georgia Southern in a three-game series at the Southern Miss Softball Complex, with the first game scheduled for 6 p.m. April 9. The contest will be streamed on ESPN+, according to university officials.

The Golden Eagles enter the series with a 27-16 record overall and an 8-4 mark in Sun Belt Conference play. They have won four straight conference series to open league play, a feat not achieved since 2000, the university said.

Southern Miss standout Hannah Christian is among the Sun Belt leaders, batting above .400 with at least 30 runs, 30 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases. The series marks the first time the programs have met in Hattiesburg since 2022, when the Golden Eagles won the opening game 8-1. Georgia Southern took two of three games in their previous series in Statesboro, Georgia.

Key players include Georgia Southern’s Emma Davis, who leads the team with a .374 batting average, 12 doubles, and an on-base percentage of .457. The Eagles’ Alana Barnard leads the team in ERA (3.54), complete games (8), and strikeouts (40).

Southern Miss has several national statistical rankings, including second in SAC flies (26) and fifth in hit-by-pitches (43). The team also ranks in the top 20 nationally in fielding percentage (.977) and in the top 25 in triples (12).

The series is tied 2-2 historically. Southern Miss won the most recent matchup 2-1 in 11 innings. The Golden Eagles also won the first contest in 2022, played in Florida, 8-1.
